Senior Development Manager

Drive and grow Camp Scugog’s fundraising efforts, with a strong focus on major gifts.

Over 100 years of changing lives through camp

For more than a century, Camp Scugog has created joy, confidence, and connection for children and families who need it most. We provide transformative outdoor experiences that ignite potential and build community for those facing socioeconomic barriers. Here, nature isn’t just a setting, it is the catalyst for growth, confidence, and belonging.

About the Organization

Camp Scugog is an inclusive and supportive community that believes socioeconomic challenges should never be a barrier to growth or access to the outdoors.

Our programs includes:

  • Overnight Summer Camp, supporting children, youth, and families through connection, confidence, and joy.

  • Nature School, offering outdoor, experiential learning rooted in curiosity and child-led exploration.

  • Leadership Centre, delivering programs that build student leadership, resilience, and teamwork.

About the Role

We’re looking for a senior, hands-on fundraiser to drive and grow Camp Scugog’s fundraising efforts.

This role is responsible for both strategy and execution across all fundraising streams, with a strong emphasis on major gifts. You will own a portfolio of donors, lead key fundraising initiatives, and build the systems and structure needed to support long-term growth.

You will be the primary fundraiser, supported by administrative coordination for receipt and donor stewardship.

You’ll thrive in a highly autonomous role that requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution, within a small and collaborative organization. It’s a unique opportunity to build and shape a fundraising function with significant room for growth.

This is a remote-first position, with occasional in-person expectations for donor meetings, events, and time at camp in Nestleton, ON. Candidates must be based within commuting distance of the Greater Toronto Area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and execute Camp Scugog’s fundraising strategy across major gifts, grants, annual giving, and events

  • Build, manage, and grow a portfolio of donors ($1,000–$50,000+), with a strong focus on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts

  • Identify and develop new donor opportunities to strengthen and expand the fundraising pipeline

  • Own and grow Camp Scugog Quest (annual fundraising event), driving strategy, sponsorship, participant engagement, and revenue growth

  • Plan and execute additional campaigns to support annual fundraising goals

  • Research, write, and manage grants for foundations, corporations, and government funders

  • Develop compelling proposals, reports, and donor communications that clearly demonstrate impact

  • Lead donor stewardship efforts, ensuring strong relationships, thoughtful engagement, and long-term retention

  • Maintain accurate donor records and reporting within the CRM, and continuously improve systems, processes, and tools to support fundraising growth

  • Partner with program staff to develop funding opportunities and share meaningful stories

  • Track fundraising performance and adjust strategies to meet annual goals

  • Ensure all fundraising practices align with CRA and Imagine Canada standards

What Success Looks Like

  • A consistently growing and well-managed major gift pipeline

  • Strong donor engagement and retention, with meaningful long-term relationships

  • Successful execution and continued growth of Camp Scugog Quest

  • Clear, effective fundraising systems and processes that support scale

  • Steady, sustainable growth in overall fundraising revenue

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of fundraising experience, with demonstrated success securing and stewarding major gifts

  • Experience managing a full fundraising portfolio, including major gifts, grants, events, and campaigns

  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence donors

  • Excellent writing and storytelling ability, with experience developing proposals and donor communications

  • Experience using CRM systems to manage donor relationships, track activity, and support reporting

  • Highly self-directed, with the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a fast-moving environment

  • Comfortable prioritizing across competing demands and working with a high degree of autonomy

  • Experience building or improving fundraising systems and processes is an asset

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, or business) is an asset

  • Experience in a small organization or similarly autonomous role is an asset

  • Familiarity with camps and outdoor education, or a strong interest in the space, is important for success in this role

  • Police background check with vulnerable sector screening required

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience

  • 3 weeks vacation + paid closure between Christmas and New Year

  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, retirement contributions)

  • Flexible, remote-first work environment
