Ontario Trillium Foundation grant celebrated at Camp Scugog board meeting with with special guest MPP

NESTLETON, ON – On Saturday, Camp Scugog hosted Durham MPP, the Honourable Todd McCarthy, at its board meeting to celebrate and learn more about the $77,500 Resilient Communities Grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) used to launch Camp Scugog’s Leadership Centre.


“Honoured to meet and congratulate the members of the 2024 Camp Scugog 

Team,” said Mr. McCarthy. “Thank you for carrying on the nearly century old tradition of transformative summer camp experiences for Moms and their children of all ages, and thank you also for welcoming our local students year-round to Scugog’s natural habitat. 


With support from the OTF, Camp Scugog unveiled its Leadership Centre for school groups. This program focuses on curated leadership development in an outdoor space, perfect for schools seeking to nurture young leaders. Camp Scugog’s Leadership Centre serves as a revenue generating stream to fund its Overnight Summer Camp’s mission support children, youth, and families that face socioeconomic barriers. Thanks to the Leadership Centre, Camp Scugog now offers year-round employment to existing staff, providing opportunities to its own young leaders.


“We are so grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support and belief in our overall mission to cultivate student leaders through personal development, outdoor education, and team-building,” said Dana Leahey, Executive Director at Camp Scugog. “We're excited to grow students and help send kids from underserved communities to summer camp with profits from the Leadership Centre. Camp Scugog is a beloved organization offering an overnight Summer Camp, a year-round Nature School and a year-round outdoor Leadership Centre. Overall, it is an inclusive and supportive community that ignites potential and nurtures positive outcomes for its campers and staff.
