Minnows

Mondays | 9:00 am to 12:00 pm | Ages 4-8

Minnows is a half-day introductory program, with the aim of developing children’s relationship with nature and increasing their comfort outdoors. Children have the opportunity to play games, sing songs, hear stories, and more while becoming more self-aware, having fun, and making new friends.

Our Instructors focus on building relationships to identify the areas of growth and development of each child. Children build connections with nature through a set of core routines and tap into their imaginations through free play. They participate in activities and games which focus on exploration, experimentation, and inquiry to gain an understanding of the various living things with which we share our environment. Through this program, children begin to build their outdoor skill toolbox: fire starting, safety in the forest, as well as balance, coordination, and teamwork

  • We are located on over 300 spectacular acres along the shores of Lake Scugog. Our property includes cedar groves, old growth hardwood forests, a meadow and protected wetlands including a vibrant swamp and more than 1,000 feet of beautiful shoreline. It is an ideal setting for children to interact with the natural world, and although most of our time is spent outdoors, we do have a variety of indoor spaces available as needed.

Our home base, The Old Barn, is where the day will always start and end with circle time, where lunch is had and where self-guided play is enjoyed. The Old Barn also houses the Nature Museum, a place to display all collected finds from throughout the day at Nature School.
