Bumblebees

Mondays, Wednesdays | 9:00 am to 3:30 pm | Ages 4-8

Bumblebees is the program for the young, curious, and quickly growing children who spend their time expanding their knowledge of the outdoor world while having a lot of fun. Children participate in a variety of activities and games with a focus on exploration, experimentation, and inquiry.

Days are filled with stories and songs to kindle their sense of wonder. Children practice cooperation, teamwork, as well as gross and fine motor skills as they play with loose parts in the natural environment. With a variety of habitats easily accessible from our base, children have plenty of opportunities to learn about the basic identification of plants and animals and begin to develop skills for survival outdoors. They build relationships with nature and understand the changing seasons through hands-on learning and experiments.

Bumblebees runs on Mondays and Wednesdays and children are able to attend the program on one or two days per week.

  • We are located on over 300 spectacular acres along the shores of Lake Scugog. Our property includes cedar groves, old growth hardwood forests, a meadow and protected wetlands including a vibrant swamp and more than 1,000 feet of beautiful shoreline. It is an ideal setting for children to interact with the natural world, and although most of our time is spent outdoors, we do have a variety of indoor spaces available as needed.

Our home base, The Old Barn, is where the day will always start and end with circle time, where lunch is had and where self-guided play is enjoyed. The Old Barn also houses the Nature Museum, a place to display all collected finds from throughout the day at Nature School.
